DTLA Walking Tours has expanded its tour offerings to include a “Haunted” walking tour of DTLA, and it’s just in time for the season. Neel, DTLA Walking Tour’s owner and lead tour guide, has done an awesome job of pulling together facts, pictures, historical snippets and a winding path through some of DTLA’s most notorious and “haunted” locations. The tour starts at the Pico House in DTLA, which sits next door to the famed Olvera Street. Pico House, we learned, is still haunted by the first owner and last Mexican governor Pio Pico… Like the Pico House’s famed history, several other buildings are featured along the tour’s path including the LA Times, the city’s original jail/federal building, multiple hotels – and (I had no idea these existed!) now-defunct underground tunnels used decades ago to transport famed prisoners under downtown LA. Tales of famed cases, displaced populations, the Hollywood elite and even a few cold cases dot the haunted tour’s path and breathe new (spooky) life into the history of our beloved “DTLA”.
